Profile of Alcohol-Related Liver Disease Among Patients Attending Tertiary Care Hospital in India — Insights from a Study in North Western India

A prospective observational study of 281 patients with heavy alcohol use and liver dysfunction at a tertiary care centre in Northwestern India. The study reveals that 90.75% of patients were male, predominantly rural, consuming country-made liquor for over 10–20 years. The most frequent complications were ascites, GI bleeding, and hepatic encephalopathy. Higher disease severity (Maddrey DF score) correlated directly with duration and type of alcohol consumption, highlighting critical socioeconomic dimensions of the disease burden.

Round pneumonia in adults masquerading as bronchogenic carcinoma

This case report documents a 45-year-old female presenting with a round pulmonary mass on imaging that closely mimicked bronchogenic carcinoma. Round pneumonia — a well-known entity in children — is exceedingly rare in adults and carries a significant risk of misdiagnosis as malignancy, leading to unnecessary CT scans, biopsies, and patient anxiety. The report underscores the importance of recognizing this benign, treatable condition in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary masses in adult patients.

Lemierre's Syndrome — a rare fusobacterial complication

A case report of a 48-year-old male diagnosed with Lemierre's Syndrome — a life-threatening condition caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum resulting in septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein following pharyngitis. Double diabetes: a case report

Rheumatoid arthritis — unique combination of rheumatic, cardiac and pulmonary manifestations of a multisystem disorder

This study documents an unusually complex case of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presenting with simultaneous rheumatic, cardiac (pericarditis), and pulmonary (interstitial lung disease) involvement — a rare triad in a single patient. While RA is known to affect multiple systems in approximately 40% of patients, the concurrent presentation of all three major extra-articular manifestations is exceedingly uncommon. The report highlights the importance of a comprehensive multisystem evaluation in RA patients and advocates for early specialist involvement to prevent organ-specific complications and long-term morbidity.
